Flacbox

Flacbox is a hi-res music player for iPhone, iPad, and Mac that streams and downloads tracks from iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, MEGA, Box, pCloud, Yandex Disk, Synology, QNAP, WD My Cloud Home, and any other WebDAV, SMB, or DLNA server. Built on the system codecs plus the bundled FFmpeg library, it adds support for formats Apple’s default player can’t handle — WMA, OGG, OPUS, APE, DSD — and gives audiophiles control over output sample rate, multi-channel routing, pitch correction, and IO buffer duration. This FAQ answers the questions users send most often. For deeper walkthroughs, see the Flacbox User Guide or browse our How-to articles.

How does Flacbox work?

Flacbox is a hi-res music player that lets you manage audio tracks like regular files and stream them from any cloud service or NAS — no iTunes sync needed.

You can upload your entire music collection to cloud services like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, iCloud Drive, MEGA, Box, pCloud, or a personal NAS, and play music directly from the cloud with full control. To listen offline, use the built-in download manager to save music to your device. Files are stored on your storage exactly as you put them there — Flacbox simply plays them.

Is Flacbox free?

Yes — Flacbox is free to use with some limitations, which can be removed by upgrading to the Premium version.

You can choose between a one-time lifetime purchase or two subscription options (monthly or yearly). Prices may vary based on your region. Family Sharing is enabled for all plans, so you can share Premium with up to five members of your family. Premium purchases and subscriptions are shared across iOS and Mac via iCloud — to sync your purchase, make sure iCloud is enabled on both devices, open the app on iOS, and wait a minute for sync to complete.

What is the difference between Flacbox and Evermusic?

Flacbox is the audiophile-focused player with FFmpeg-powered format support, configurable sample rate, multi-channel output, and pitch correction; Evermusic is the mainstream player with crossfade, gapless, spatial audio, and a broader cloud feature set.

Flacbox is built to support all default iOS audio formats along with many additional formats not natively supported on iPhone, such as WMA, OGG, OPUS, APE, DSD, DSF, DFF, TTA, MPC, WV, and more. It uses a custom audio engine (system codecs + FFmpeg) to handle nearly every format, and offers audiophile-grade features like adjustable audio output sample rate (44.1 – 96 kHz), multi-channel output (Mono → 5.1 → SDDS), IO buffer tuning, and pitch correction (-1000 to +1000).

Evermusic supports the default Apple audio formats and includes consumer-friendly features like crossfade playback, gapless playback, spatial audio, audio equalizer, playback speed control, and broader cloud-streaming tooling. If you mainly use MP3, AAC, ALAC, or FLAC and want crossfade, gapless, or spatial audio, Evermusic may be the better option. If you need broad compatibility with a wider range of audio formats — especially DSD or WMA — and want fine control over the audio output chain, Flacbox is the right choice.

Is Flacbox safe?

Yes — Flacbox uses only official SDKs and secure OAuth connections to interact with connected cloud services, never sees your password, and stores only encrypted access tokens in the iOS Keychain.

When you enter your login and password, the application shows you the official authorization page provided by the cloud service provider, and the entire authorization process happens outside Flacbox. The cloud provider then sends an auth-token to the application after successful authorization, and that token is used to make API calls.

An auth-token is a digital key that allows third-party applications to interact with cloud storage. The token is stored on your device in Apple’s secure system storage (Keychain), which is encrypted at rest and protected by your device passcode or biometric lock. Downloaded files are stored in the app’s Documents directory; you can remove them at any time using the built-in file manager.

The application does not share any information from connected cloud accounts with Everappz, advertisers, or any third party. You can revoke access to your cloud account at any time by opening the account-settings page in your web browser. To revoke an auth-token, log in to your cloud account on the web, navigate to the security or connected-apps page, and remove the entry for Flacbox.

You can also disconnect the cloud account inside the application itself — when you do, the auth-token is immediately deleted from your device. Uninstalling the application deletes all downloaded data and tokens automatically.

Does Flacbox support Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, Subsonic, and Navidrome?

Yes — Flacbox connects natively to Plex Media Server, Jellyfin, Emby, Subsonic, and Navidrome, so you can stream your self-hosted music library without ever exposing the underlying file share.

  • Plex Media Server — tap Connect to cloud storage → Plex, sign in with your Plex account, and pick a server. Plex servers on the same local network are also discovered automatically in Available Devices.
  • Jellyfin (open-source) — tap Connect to cloud storage → Jellyfin, enter your server URL (something like http://server-ip:8096) and credentials.
  • Emby — tap Connect to cloud storage → Emby, then enter the server URL and login.
  • Subsonic and Subsonic-compatible servers — tap Connect to cloud storage → Subsonic, enter the server URL and credentials. Once connected, the server appears alongside your cloud accounts in the Connections screen. You can browse by Artists, Albums, Genres, Playlists, and the server’s own folder layout, download tracks for offline playback, queue them in the audio player, and even pull them into Flacbox’s music library so they show up in your global Artists / Albums / Genres / Composers views.

Does Flacbox support FTP, FTPS, SFTP, and NFS?

Yes — Flacbox supports the classic Unix file-transfer protocols: FTP, FTPS, SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol), and NFS.

Tap Connect to cloud storage → S3 storage, then enter the endpoint URL, region, access key, secret key, and bucket name. Once connected, the bucket appears alongside your other cloud services — you can browse, stream, download, sync, and add tracks to your music library exactly the same way.

Does Flacbox support Apple CarPlay?

Yes — Flacbox fully supports Apple CarPlay, with dedicated tabs for Library, Connections, Local Files, and Settings, so you can browse and control playback right from your car’s infotainment screen.

You can stream from cloud storage, play offline tracks, control shuffle, repeat, queue management, and even the audio equalizer without picking up your phone. To use CarPlay, make sure Siri is enabled on your iPhone, then connect it to your vehicle via USB or wireless CarPlay.

Fine-tune the CarPlay experience in Settings → CarPlay — sort options, content loading limit (pagination), menu icons gradient color, whether images are shown for faster loading on large libraries, and Pause Playback When Connected to avoid sudden loud audio.

Does Flacbox play FLAC on iPhone?

Yes — Flacbox plays FLAC lossless audio natively on iPhone, iPad, and Mac, including very high-resolution files, with full support for embedded album art, lyrics, and metadata.

FLAC files stream directly from connected cloud storage or play locally with no conversion or transcoding. For best results with very high-resolution files, leave the Audio Codec set to System Codec + FFmpeg or pick FFmpeg in Settings → Audio Player → General so you can also tweak sample rate and pitch correction.

Does Flacbox play DSD, DSF, and DFF files?

Yes — Flacbox plays DSD-family formats (DSF, DFF) through its bundled FFmpeg engine. Most consumer DACs do not accept native DSD via Lightning / USB-C, so DSD is decoded to PCM in real time before output.

For best results with DSD, switch the Audio Codec to FFmpeg in Settings → Audio Player → General and pick an Audio Output Sample Rate of 88.2 kHz or 96 kHz that matches your DAC. Pair Flacbox with a USB or Lightning DAC for fully transparent decoding.

Does Flacbox support Hi-Res audio (24-bit / 96 kHz)?

Yes — Flacbox supports Hi-Res audio playback through the FFmpeg engine, with configurable output sample rates of 44.1, 48, 64, 88.2, and 96 kHz.

In Settings → Audio Player → General, switch Audio Codec to FFmpeg, then choose your preferred Audio Output Sample Rate and number of channels. Pair this with a compatible external DAC or USB / Lightning audio interface to get bit-perfect output from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

How do I use an external USB DAC with Flacbox?

Plug your USB DAC into the iPhone, iPad, or Mac (via Lightning-to-USB, USB-C, or directly), then in Settings → Audio Player → General switch to the FFmpeg codec and pick the sample rate and channel count your DAC expects.

Many audiophile DACs prefer 88.2 kHz or 96 kHz with Stereo output. Lower the Audio Output Preferred IO Buffer Duration to around 5 ms (0.005 s) for low latency, then increase it slightly if you hear glitches. Flacbox works with most class-compliant USB DACs and Lightning DACs, including offerings from AudioQuest, iFi, Chord, FiiO, Topping, and others.

Does Flacbox play WMA, OGG, OPUS, and APE files?

Yes — Flacbox plays WMA, OGG, OPUS, APE, TTA, MPC, WV, and many other less-common formats through the bundled FFmpeg engine, even though iOS does not support them natively.

No conversion is required: drop the files into iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or your NAS, connect that service in Flacbox, and the files just play. Embedded tags, album art, and lyrics are read where present.

Does Flacbox support multi-channel or 5.1 surround output?

Yes — Flacbox lets you pick Mono, Stereo, Center/Left/Right, Center/Left/Right/Surround, ITU BS.775-1, 5.1 Surround, and SDDS in Settings → Audio Player → General → Audio Output Number of Channels (FFmpeg codec required).

This is useful with external multi-channel DACs and AV receivers. Most users should stick to Stereo unless they have specific multi-channel hardware connected, since the iPhone’s built-in speakers and most headphones are stereo only.

Does Flacbox support pitch correction?

Yes — Flacbox offers pitch correction in a wide range from -1000 to +1000 cents, configurable in Settings → Audio Player → Pitch Correction.

Use Precise Mode (tap the configuration icon in the top-right corner) for finer adjustments. Pitch correction is available in the FFmpeg codec path, so make sure you’ve selected FFmpeg under Settings → Audio Player → General → Audio Codec to access it.

How do I import an M3U, M3U8, or CUE playlist into Flacbox?

Open the Playlists section, tap the “…” menu, select “Import Playlist,” then pick the .m3u, .m3u8, or .cue file from your cloud storage or device.

The app parses the playlist file, locates each referenced track on your storage, and creates a real playlist in your music library. Supported file extensions are M3U, M3U8, and CUE. Make sure the paths inside the playlist file match where the audio files actually live on the storage.

How do I export a playlist from Flacbox to M3U, CSV, or TXT?

Open the playlist, tap the “…” menu, and choose “Export Songs List” — you can save the result as M3U, M3U8, CSV, or TXT.

The same action is also available for albums, artists, genres, the Recents list, and the Favorites list. Use M3U for re-importing into other players, CSV for spreadsheets, and TXT for a simple, human-readable copy.

How do I cast music from Flacbox to Google Chromecast or AirPlay?

Open the audio player, tap the AirPlay or Chromecast icon, and pick your speaker, TV, or AV receiver from the list.

Both AirPlay 2 and Google Chromecast are supported on iOS — the buttons can be added to the main player screen via Settings → Audio Player → Personalization → Main Screen Actions. Some hi-res formats may need to be transcoded for Chromecast playback. AirPlay 2 also lets you play to multiple HomePods or Apple TVs at the same time.

How do I enable Flacbox widgets on my iPhone Home Screen or Lock Screen?

Enable widget updates in Settings → Widgets, then long-press your Home Screen or Lock Screen, tap “+”, search “Flacbox,” and pick a widget size.

The widget shows the currently playing track with artwork and basic info. Because widget refreshes use a small amount of energy, the Enable Widgets toggle is off by default — turn it on only if you actively use widgets. Widgets work on iPhone and iPad Home Screen and Lock Screen, and also in the macOS Notification Center.

How do I edit MP3 tags from Flacbox?

Tap “…” on any track and choose Edit Audio Tags to open the built-in tags editor — you can change title, artist, album, year, genre, lyrics, album cover, and more.

For online files, Flacbox temporarily downloads the track, lets you edit, and then re-uploads it to the cloud service. You can configure this behavior in Settings → Audio Tags Editor — including album-cover scaling, whether changes are written back to cloud files automatically, and which buttons appear on the editor’s main screen. For deeper batch editing across many files at once, install our companion app Evertag. Learn more about Evertag.

How do I fix missing album covers in Flacbox?

Open Settings → Library → Album Covers, enable “Load Album Covers for Online Files” and “Search in the Folder,” then bump up Cover Quality if needed — the app will pull embedded artwork from your cloud files and use JPEG / PNG images stored alongside your audio files when no embedded cover exists.

You can also tap Delete All to clear the cover cache and force a refresh. To replace a specific cover manually, tap "…" → Edit Image on the album, playlist, or track and pick a new image from your photo library, the Files app, or one of your connected cloud services. For deeper control over the artwork stored inside the audio file itself, use Edit Audio Tags or our companion app Evertag.

How do I delete a song from Flacbox without deleting it from my cloud storage?

On any track, tap “…” → Delete from Music Library — this removes the song from your library database but leaves the file untouched in cloud storage and Local Files.

To also remove the file from the cloud or local device, choose Delete from Cloud Service or Delete from Local Files instead. These destructive actions cannot be undone, so be careful when you have multiple files selected.

How do I back up and restore my Flacbox music library?

Open Settings → Backup & Restore, select what to include (Database, Album Covers, Settings), tap “Backup Application Data,” and save the backup file — open it on another device to restore.

The backup contains your music library entries, playlists, ratings, favorites, settings, and album cover cache. It does not include offline-downloaded audio files, to keep the file size manageable. Move the backup file to the new device via iCloud Drive, AirDrop, or any connected cloud service, then open it in Flacbox to apply.

How do I share Flacbox Premium with my family?

All Flacbox Premium plans — lifetime, monthly, and annual — work with Apple Family Sharing, so anyone in your family group can install Flacbox and use Premium at no extra cost.

Set up Family Sharing in iOS / macOS Settings → Family, then have each family member install Flacbox from the App Store and run it once while signed in to their own Apple ID. Premium is recognized automatically within a minute. The same plan is shared between iPhone, iPad, and Mac for every family member.

How do I cancel my Flacbox Premium subscription?

Open iOS or macOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, find Flacbox, and tap Cancel Subscription — your Premium features stay active until the end of the current billing period.

Lifetime in-app purchases are not subscriptions and do not need to be cancelled. For refunds, use Apple’s Report a Problem page (reportaproblem.apple.com) — refunds are issued by Apple, not by Everappz.

How do I protect Flacbox with a passcode?

Open Settings → Passcode, tap Enable, and pick a 4-digit code — you’ll be prompted to enter it every time the app launches.

Flacbox uses a fixed 4-digit numeric passcode. The passcode prevents anyone with access to your device from opening Flacbox and browsing your connected cloud accounts, downloaded files, and library. Combine it with iOS Face ID / Touch ID on the device for extra protection.

How do I enable dark mode in Flacbox?

Open Settings → Personalization → Color Scheme, then pick Dark, Light, or Default (which follows your system appearance).

You can also pick alternate app icons in Settings → Personalization → Application Icon (Premium), and choose a blurred album cover as the app background under Background Style.

How do I change playback speed in Flacbox?

Open the audio player, tap the Speed control, and drag the slider — speed is adjustable from 0.02× to 3.00×.

You can also change the default speed in Settings → Audio Player → Playback Speed. Tap the configuration icon in the top-right corner to switch to precise mode for very fine adjustments — handy for audiobooks, lectures, and language-learning content.

How do I set a sleep timer in Flacbox?

Open Settings → Audio Player → Sleep Timer, turn it on, and choose how long you want music to play before it stops.

You can also enable the Sleep Timer button directly on the audio player screen by adding it via Settings → Audio Player → Personalization → Main Screen Actions. Tap the configuration icon in the top-right corner of the Sleep Timer screen to enable precise minute-by-minute adjustments.

Can I use Flacbox without an internet connection?

Yes — once you’ve downloaded music or enabled offline mode for a folder, Flacbox plays everything fully offline.

Offline content lives under Local Files and continues to work in airplane mode, on flights, and anywhere without Wi-Fi or cellular data. Cloud-only tracks (those you haven’t downloaded) will be greyed out until you regain a connection. For trips, enable Offline Mode for the relevant folders or download specific albums and playlists before you go.

Does Flacbox scrobble to Last.fm?

Yes — Flacbox supports Last.fm scrobbling, so every track you play is automatically logged to your Last.fm profile.

Connect your Last.fm account from the Connections → Other Services section. Once connected, all playback statistics are sent to Last.fm in the background. You can then visit your Last.fm profile to see listening trends, weekly top artists, and personalized recommendations.

How do I change the language of the Flacbox interface?

Open Settings → Language, pick from over 120 supported languages, then restart the app for the change to take effect.

The app supports localizations including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Dutch, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Vietnamese, Turkish, and many more. Choose Default to follow the device’s language setting automatically. After selecting a new language, fully quit Flacbox and reopen it so every screen redraws with the new translations.

How do I search for a song, album, or artist in Flacbox?

Tap the magnifying-glass icon in any list — Music Library, Playlists, Albums, Artists, Genres, or inside a folder — and type a name to filter results instantly.

Search is local and works fully offline against your library database, so results appear as you type even on slow networks. You can also search inside a specific playlist, album, or folder to find a single track among hundreds. Tracks, albums, artists, genres, composers, and folders are all searchable.

Does Flacbox work with Bluetooth headphones, AirPods, and external DACs?

Yes — Flacbox plays through any audio output your iPhone, iPad, or Mac can use: built-in speakers, wired headphones, Bluetooth devices (AirPods, Beats, Sony, Bose, etc.), and USB / Lightning DACs.

For Hi-Res output to an external DAC, switch the audio codec to FFmpeg in Settings → Audio Player → General and pick the appropriate Audio Output Sample Rate and number of channels. AirPods’ on-stem controls (play / pause, next / previous) work as expected, and the lock-screen controls can be customized in Settings → Audio Player → Personalization → Playback Controls on the Lock Screen.

How do I use a USB flash drive or SD card with Flacbox on iPhone or iPad?

Plug the drive into your iPhone or iPad via the Lightning-to-USB or USB-C adapter, then in Flacbox open Local Files → Files on This iPhone → Open Folder, navigate to the drive, and pick the music folder.

Flacbox plays files directly from the drive without copying them to internal storage, which is useful for very large lossless libraries. You can also import tracks to the music library or add them to playlists in the same way. The app supports Apple Certified card readers and iXpand Flash Drives — for iXpand, insert it into the Lightning port and the drive appears automatically in the Connections screen. See the full step-by-step instructions in How to connect a USB flash drive to iPhone and listen to music.

Why is my cloud music not syncing in Flacbox?

Most sync issues are caused by an expired auth token, app backgrounding, or no active internet connection — open Connections, re-authorize the service, then run sync manually from Settings → Library → Online Synchronization.

Online sync runs only when the app is in the foreground, so syncing a large library can take a while. To speed it up, keep Flacbox open, plug your device into power, and enable Settings → Screen → Always Active. For very large libraries, run sync on the desktop version of the app and transfer the result to iOS using Backup & Restore.

How do I contact Flacbox support?

Open Settings → Send Feedback to email our support team directly from the app, with diagnostic info attached automatically.

You can also visit the Help Center, browse the How-to guides, or check the broader FAQ for self-serve answers. We typically reply within one business day.
