Everdisk

Everdisk is a wireless drive app for iPhone and iPad. It turns your device into a hub that shares the files, photos, videos and music you choose with anything on your local network, and it also connects to other servers so you can browse and stream their files.

It runs four servers at once - DLNA for TVs, HTTP for web browsers, WebDAV for Finder/Windows/Linux, and FTP for file apps - so every device connects the way it likes. There are no accounts and no cloud: you tap Start and you are ready. It also includes a file manager, a media player, a photo gallery, document scanning to PDF, and zip/unzip.

When you tap Start, Everdisk turns your device into a server on your local network and shares the content you selected. Four different connection methods run at the same time so different devices can connect in the way they prefer:

• DLNA - smart TVs and media players find your device automatically and show your media with thumbnails.
  
• HTTP - anyone opens a link in a web browser to browse and download your files.
  
• WebDAV - your device appears as a normal network drive in Finder, Windows or Linux.
  
• FTP - file apps and power tools connect over FTP.
  
  

Everything happens over your local Wi-Fi (or a USB cable to a Mac) and never touches the internet.

No. Everdisk needs no account and no internet connection. It works entirely on your local network, or over a USB cable to a Mac. Nothing is uploaded to any cloud. The only optional login is one you can set to password-protect your own sharing.

Open the Sharing tab, tap What to Share and choose your files, photos and/or music, then tap the big Start button. The How to Connect section then shows the exact addresses other devices use to connect. Tap Stop to take everything offline again.

Three kinds of content, in any combination:

• Files and folders - the app’s Documents folder (shared by default), plus any folders or individual files you add with Add Folder and Add File.
  
• Photos and videos - your whole Photos library with Allow access to all Photos Library, or only selected items with Add Photos.
  
• Music - your whole Music library with Allow access to all Music Library, or selected songs with Add Tracks.
  
  

You must select at least one thing before sharing can start. Protected (DRM) and cloud-only tracks can’t be shared.

1. On the Sharing screen, open What to Share → Photos and Videos and turn on Allow access to all Photos Library (or add specific photos).
   
2. Tap Start.
   
3. On the computer, either open the Browser address in any web browser and download, or connect to the Computer (WebDAV) address from Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows) and drag the photos across.
   
   

Tip: keep the Photos Format on Original for the fastest transfer.

1. In Settings → Sharing → Connections, make sure TV & Media Center (DLNA) is on.
   
2. Tap Start.
   
3. On the TV, open its built-in media player or media-server app and pick your device by its name from the list of media servers.
   
4. Browse and play. Preview thumbnails appear automatically.
   
   

If an older TV won’t play a video, lower the quality in Settings → Sharing → Videos so Everdisk converts it to a more compatible format.

Turn on Allow access to all Music Library (or add tracks) under What to Share, then Start. You can then play your music from another device’s web browser (there is a built-in player with a queue, shuffle and repeat), from a DLNA TV, or in Everdisk itself using the Documents → Music mode. Music is always shared in its original quality.

Tap any video - in your Documents, a connected folder, or a server on the Devices tab - and it plays full screen using the built-in system player, with standard controls including AirPlay, Picture in Picture and playback speed. Audio plays in a mini player that stays at the bottom of the app with a queue, shuffle and repeat.

1. In Settings → Sharing → Connections, make sure Browser (HTTP) is on.
   
2. Tap Start and copy the Browser address (or show its QR code).
   
3. On the other device, open any web browser and type that address.
   
   

The other person can browse in a grid or list, view photos in a full-screen gallery, play music, and download files - including downloading a whole folder as one Archive.zip. If you turned on Files Editing, they can also upload files back to you. Nothing needs to be installed on their side.

1. In Settings → Sharing → Connections, make sure Computer (WebDAV) is on, then Start.
   
2. On the Mac, open Finder and choose Go → Connect to Server (or press ⌘K).
   
3. Enter the Computer (WebDAV) address shown in Everdisk and click Connect.
   
4. Enter your login and password if you set one; otherwise connect as a guest.
   
   

Your device mounts like any network drive. With Files Editing on you can drag files both ways; with it off the drive is read-only.

Use the Computer (WebDAV) address.

• Windows: open File Explorer → right-click This PC → Add a network location (or map a network drive), and enter the WebDAV address.
  
• Linux: in your file manager choose Connect to Server and enter the WebDAV address (for example with a davs:// or dav:// prefix).
  
  

Enter the login and password if you set one.

Yes, with a Mac and a cable. Plug your iPhone or iPad into the Mac, tap Trust if asked, and tap Start. A Cable Connection address ending in .local appears on the Sharing screen; connect to it from Finder (⌘K). This works with no Wi-Fi at all - great on a plane, in a hotel, or on a locked network - and it is faster and more private than Wi-Fi.

No. The cable connection works with a Mac only. Windows PCs and Android devices connect over Wi-Fi. (On Windows you can still drag files into the Everdisk folder using the Apple Devices app or iTunes over the cable, which is separate from live sharing.)

Your iPhone or iPad is the server, and iOS does not let apps keep a network server running in the background. So sharing works only while Everdisk is open on screen. For long transfers, keep the app in the foreground, plug into power, and set Auto-Lock to Never in the iOS Settings app. You can also turn on Notify before disconnecting so Everdisk reminds you before the system pauses it.

The USB cable to a Mac is faster and more reliable than Wi-Fi, because the data goes straight over the cable. It is also the most private option, since nothing passes through your router or the internet. Use it for large photo and video transfers.

They all share the same content but suit different devices:

• TV & Media Center (DLNA) - for smart TVs and media players.
  
• Browser (HTTP) - for any web browser, no install needed.
  
• Computer (WebDAV) - makes your device a network drive in Finder/Windows/Linux.
  
• Other Apps & Devices (FTP) - for file apps and power tools.
  
  

You can turn any of them on or off in Settings → Sharing → Connections.

Go to Settings → Sharing → Access and set a Login and Password. The Browser, Computer and Other Apps connections will then ask for those details. Leave both empty for open access.

Note: the DLNA (TV) connection can’t be password protected, so it is open to anyone on the same Wi-Fi while it is on. Turn it off if you only want protected connections.

Yes. The Files Editing toggle in Settings → Sharing → Access controls this. With it on (the default), connected devices can upload, rename and delete. Turn it off to make your shared files read-only - others can view and download but not change anything.

On the Sharing screen, find the device under Who is Connected, tap its more-actions button, and choose Block this device. Manage blocked devices in Settings → Sharing → Access → Blocked Devices, where you can unblock one or Unblock All.

Not by default. Deleted files go to a recoverable trash so you can get them back. If you prefer immediate deletion with no recovery, turn on Permanently Delete Files in Settings → File Manager → Deleting Files.

Yes. Everdisk shares only over your local network - nothing goes to the internet and there is no cloud account. For the best privacy, share on a home or private Wi-Fi you trust, add a login and password, and be careful on public Wi-Fi. The USB cable to a Mac is the most private option of all. Everdisk needs the iOS Local Network permission so nearby devices can find it.

Yes. The Devices tab connects to other servers on your network. Tap New Connection and choose DLNA / UPnP, WebDAV, FTP or SFTP, enter the address and any login, and you can browse, stream and download. On WebDAV, FTP and SFTP servers you can also create folders, upload, rename, move and delete. DLNA servers are read-only.

Everdisk does not sign in to cloud accounts such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive. It connects only to local-network and directly-addressed servers (DLNA, WebDAV, FTP, SFTP). A cloud service is reachable only if it offers a WebDAV address you can type into a new WebDAV connection.

It is the client side of Everdisk: Connections lists servers you saved, and Available Devices lists servers found automatically on your network. Tap one to browse, stream or download its files, or tap New Connection to add a DLNA, WebDAV, FTP or SFTP server by hand.

Open the server on the Devices tab, browse to what you want, and choose Download (select several items for a batch). Downloads run in the background, appear in File Transfers (top-left of the Documents tab), and land in your Documents folder.

Yes. The Documents tab is a full file manager. You can browse in list or grid, create folders, rename, move, copy, upload and delete, and open the Info screen for any file. Downloads land here, and the Documents folder is shared by default.

In the Documents tab, select one or more items and choose Archive. A single item is zipped on its own; several items are bundled into one Archive.zip. In a web browser you can also download a whole folder or several selected items as a single zip.

Tap a .zip or .rar file in the Documents tab and Everdisk extracts it into the current folder, with a progress bar you can cancel.

In the Documents tab, open the more-actions (•••) menu and choose Scan Documents. Point the camera at each page - Everdisk finds the edges and straightens the page automatically - and all the pages are saved together as one multi-page PDF in the current folder. You need a device with a camera.

Everdisk has a built-in PDF Tools suite. Open any PDF’s ••• menu (or its Info screen) in the Documents tab and tap PDF Tools. It is grouped into three areas:

Optimize

• Compress - make a PDF smaller. You see the current size and an estimated result size for each option before you save.
  
• Text Recognition (OCR) - turn a scanned PDF into a searchable PDF, or export just the text to a .txt file.
  
• Flatten - burn annotations and form entries into the page so they can no longer be edited.
  
  

Security

• Password - set, change or remove the password required to open the PDF.
  
• Permissions - review what the PDF allows (copying, printing, commenting, and more).
  
  

Metadata

• Edit Metadata - change or clear the title, author, subject, keywords and other document info.
  
  

PDF Tools are included for free. If a PDF is password-protected, Everdisk asks for its password before you can use the tools.

Open the PDF’s ••• menu → PDF Tools → Compress. Everdisk shows the current file size and an estimated size for each option:

• Standard keeps the text selectable and only re-compresses the images.
  
• High, Medium, Small and Smallest re-render the pages as images at a lower resolution - best for scans and photos, but the text is no longer selectable.
  
  

Tap the option you want and Everdisk saves the smaller PDF.

Open the PDF’s ••• menu → PDF Tools → Text Recognition. Choose Searchable PDF to add a hidden text layer so you can search and select the text (the pages look exactly the same), or Text File (.txt) to save just the recognized text next to the PDF. Large or scanned files can take a little while.

Open the PDF’s ••• menu → PDF Tools → Password. If the PDF isn’t protected yet, enter a new password and confirm it to set it. If it is already protected, enter the current password to remove it or change it. Keep the password somewhere safe - a protected PDF can’t be opened without it.

This protects the PDF file itself, which is different from the login and password that protect your whole sharing session (see the security questions above).

Yes. Tap a PDF (or a photo) in the Documents tab to open it in the built-in viewer, then use the Markup tools to draw, highlight, add text and shapes, and sign with your finger. Your changes are saved straight back to the file.

If you want to make those marks permanent so they can’t be edited later, open the PDF’s ••• → PDF Tools → Flatten. To add a password, run OCR, compress, or edit the document info, use the other PDF Tools (see the question above).

Yes. In the Documents tab, open the ••• menu and choose Connect Folder, then pick any folder on your device. It appears at the top with a Connected label and can be shared over the network like any other folder. Use Disconnect from its Info to unlink it - the folder and files stay on your device.

Yes, when Files Editing is on. In a web browser they get an Upload panel; on a WebDAV or FTP connection they can copy files onto your device. Turn Files Editing off (in Settings → Sharing → Access) to make sharing read-only.

If the Photos or Videos Format is set to Most Compatible or the Quality is below Original, Everdisk converts each file as it is shared, which is slower and uses more battery. Set Format and Quality to Original in Settings → Sharing for the fastest transfers, and only switch to Most Compatible if a specific TV or browser can’t open a file.

• Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network (or use the Mac cable).
  
• Confirm sharing is started and the right server is on in Settings → Sharing → Connections.
  
• Type the address exactly as shown on the Sharing screen; over Wi-Fi use the shown IP, and over the cable use the .local name (never localhost).
  
• If you set a login and password, enter them on the other device.
  
• Check the Local Network permission is allowed for Everdisk in the iOS Settings app.
  
• Make sure the other device isn’t in Blocked Devices.

Everdisk gives your device a friendly name and avatar automatically, and you can Regenerate them for free. Setting a custom name, icon, gradient or photo avatar is part of the Premium Device Customization feature.

The defaults are HTTP 80, WebDAV 8080 and FTP 2121 (DLNA picks its port automatically). You can view them for free, and setting custom ports is a Premium feature (Advanced in Settings → Sharing).

Everdisk is a free download. You can run all four servers, protect access with a password, share your whole Photos and Music library, use the file manager, scan to PDF, and connect to other servers. The free version shares up to 5 folders and saves up to 10 server connections.

A one-time Premium Lifetime purchase (not a subscription) adds: Unlimited Folders, Unlimited Connections, Photo & Video Conversion (quality other than Original), Custom Ports, Auto-Start Sharing, and Device Customization.

Premium is a one-time purchase, not a subscription - you pay once and it never renews. It is tied to your Apple ID, so you can use Restore Purchases to unlock it on your other devices signed in with the same Apple ID.
